PRESIDENTS COLUMN
I am looking forward to seeing many of you this Sunday at the CPD sessions and AGM, and more of you Monday and Tuesday for our conference. Third time lucky they say, so fingers crossed. I would like to thank the conference committee who have worked on this conference for over 2 years now in very difficult conditions, and have managed to adapt to change rapidly. I would also like to thank our speakers, most of whom have managed to move with us as we have had to postpone this conference twice already. I appreciate the time and flexibility you have shown us. Finally to our sponsors, without you this conference would not go ahead. Thank you to all of you.
I am looking forward to the Future Foresters Quiz night on Sunday. This is always a fun night and is a great way to meet the future of our industry. The Future Foresters group are very well organised and are working hard to promote our industry to the future generations. I want to thank their leadership group for all the work they put into growing our future generations and for the positive promotional work they do for our industry.
Likewise I am looking forward to our awards dinner. It is always satisfying to acknowledge this within our industry who have won and award. We will also be hearing from Minister Nash, it is always interesting to hear what future the Government envisages for us.
You will all have receive a notice for the AGM, along with relevant reports. Please make an effort to attend if you can, and if you can not, but have a question you would like to ask council, please ensure you get these questions to Raewyn well before the meeting and we will attend to them at the meeting. Also if you are an apology please send this to Raewyn as well so we can acknowledge at the AGM.
Many of you may have heard that Jason Wilson has been appointed DDG of Te Uru Rakau - New Zealand Forest Service. I would like to congratulate Jason on his appointment. I would also like to acknowledge the work of Henry Weston as acting DDG. In his short time in the role he met with mosey organisation within the sector, helping explain the role of the New Zealand Forest Service, but more importantly listening to those within the industry. Thank you Henry for listening and I wish you all the best with your future.

NZIF Canterbury Local Section Meeting 18th August 2021
When: Wednesday 18th August – meet at 5.30pm for drinks and nibbles, talk starts at 6.15pm. Please note the earlier start time – this is to allow Chris to catch his flight home at 8.10pm.
Where: Room F1 at School of Forestry, Canterbury University
Speaker: Chris Rayes, Marketing Director for Rayonier Matariki Forests.
Presentation outline: Chris has a deep knowledge of New Zealand’s log export markets and as such will bring us all up to date with what is happening in those markets.
